Recreational & cultural programs

PALW serves as a holistic recreational center for school aged youth, their families, and our community at large. We provide a safe, educational, and nurturing environment that fosters growth and creativity through various activities including; educational, cultural, and recreational resources.

Open Recreation

Our facility has provided open recreation to our community for over 20 years to school age students. Open recreation is for students aged 8-18 years old, Monday – Friday, 3 pm – 8 pm. We have a double gymnasium along with several classrooms, lounge and media center on the second floor of our facility. There are a variety of activities and games during the week. We also have a lounge and computer area. Our recreation program is also connected to our Life Savers, Tobacco, Mentoring, and D.I.V.A.’s programs to give the students a well-rounded atmosphere within our facility. All of these programs are connected during open recreation.

Mondays and Fridays 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Ages: 8-18 (for boys and girls)

Intramural Sports

Our intramural sports program bring a variety of teaching and learning for our students. Students will learn the fundamentals, knowledge and rules of the games. These sports are for beginners and experienced players. We involve everyone to create good and positive sportsmanship throughout our programs. This is done with a combination of our quality volunteer coaches, volunteer officers, and staff. As our motto states, “Building Brighter Futures one kid at a time.” Our intramural sports program will provide sports activities such as wrestling, lacrosse, volleyball, softball/baseball, and soccer. Monday – Friday 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm (boys and girls). 
Ages: 8 – 15

Extended Hours "Safe Haven" Program

“Safe Haven” Extended Hours Program is back for another summer! During this program PALW’s hours are extended every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 PM until 11:00 PM and Saturdays from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Areas open to the youth ages 8-21 includes; the gymnasiums, billiards hall, game room, and the computer lab. Dinner will be served.

Other Programs

PALW offers a variety of programs for school age students and their families. We are always enhancing and developing new activities and programs to support and assist our community youth and members. Please review the below activities for your youth’s engagement and learning experience. All of our programs are free of charge, and we provide all students with an evening meal year round.

Our facility offers African Drumming as a cultural recreation activity to our community and youth.

All are welcome to come and learn.

Our “Learn to Ride” Bike Program was developed by our resource officer to engage our students in learning how to ride two wheel bikes. Bikes are available fo use during the training. If you have your own, you may bring it to ride. Helmets will also be provided for any rider who does not have one of their own.

Second Saturday of each Month at 9:00 am
Ages: 4 and up

Within this league we offer lacrosse, volleyball, basketball, and baseball. All sports teams will have two age groups between the ages of 9-11 and 11-13.

Zumba is a fitness program that combines international music with dance moves alternating from slow and fast rhythms to give you a great cardio workout. 

Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00 pm
Come out and be your best self.
Cost: $5 per class.

We are in the process of creating our Senior program. Our senior program will assist our elderly community members with daily activities, weekly trips, and health & wellness. All seniors are welcome to walk in our double gymnasium around our designated indoor track. Seniors will have an opportunity to utilize our media center to learn technology and participate in arts & crafts, reading programs, and board games.
